My son has taken guitar lessons from Lance for several years. We appreciate his enthusiasm for learning in general, not only music, although that is the context in which we know him. He has taught my son to be versatile by helping him to learn to read sheet music, tab, chord charts, music by ear and through watching videos of other players. All of these methods have something to different to offer students and progress in their skills. He helps students establish good practice habits, keeps them interested throughout the lesson and to continue lessons. He is very personable, encouraging, and open to helping students reach their goals. I would highly recommend him as a teacher!

Lance is a cool easy going musician. I met him a few years ago. He performed at the opening gala at the Sculpture Splash art show we had last year. His performance left truly beautiful memories for all of us. If you have the opportunity to hire him or see some of his music online, I would definitely recommend to check him out.

"Lance Carr is an amazing Flamenco Guitarist who has performed at Globe Tapas Bar on a number of occasions. He is extremely professional, reliable, very easy to communicate with and organize event details with. His musical style is distinctly Spanish and he has the range and versatility to adapt to all ages and audience demographics....from slow, moody and melodic to full on flamenco rock! He can be front and centre for a show, or subtle and in the background while people are dining. We would have no hesitation in having Lance back to perform at any of our establishments again in the future!" Jude Brunt, Co-Owner, Globe Cafe & Tapas Bar, Big White Ski Resort.

Lance Carr is one of the few who from birth are called to be professional musicians. This calling also includes sharing the many gifts music gives those who play. As a teacher he is a blessing to all who are fortunate enough to be helped by him. Lives are profoundly changed through music and Lance is called to share these blessings.

As gifted as he is as a musician, Lance gifts as a teacher shine equally brightly. I have always wanted to play an instrument. Prior to the pandemic, I let negative self-belief and inertia stand in my way. After picking up a second-hand guitar, I contacted Lance at a friend’s suggestion. Within 6-months of private tutoring, I had discovered a new passion and unexpected capacity to play several of my favourite songs. More importantly, the sessions were fun, empowering, and gave me something to look forward to during a bleak period. Would highly recommend Lance if you’re interested in learning the guitar, improving your skill set or as a mentor in musicianship!

Lance became my 5-year-old son's guitar teacher during a very trying time for us, personally, and globally. He was THE LIGHT IN THE TUNNEL. Lance started teaching my son Teo during the COVID pandemic. His intuitive and effortless connection with him was aparent from the very first session. His versatile approach to teaching, tailored to the needs, progression level and Teo's interests made his online guitar lessons a warm place we wanted to be at, to sit, listen, practice, learn and never end. He taught, he listened, we learned, we cried, we smiled. I use WE, instead of "my son", because, due to my son's age, I was present during each class. Teo learned not only how to play his instrument, he learned how to love it, how to love himself and how to be proud of who he is, exactly as he is: a 5-year-old musician at the time. Lance is not only Teo's guitar teacher, he is the world of music, kindness, respect, diligence and unconditional acceptance to Teo. He is a rare individual, whom I am privileged to call my friend. To all future and aspiring musicians: If you get a chance to play with Lance Carr and learn from him do not miss it. Grab it and fly. You will not regret one second of the journey.

"I highly recommend Lance, and I can’t thank him enough for his expert teaching and support. It has always been my dream to play in the worship team at our church, and I made it happen thanks to his expertise. WHERE I STARTED I had been trying to learn guitar for a few years and was struggling. I couldn’t play a full song. I could manage basic pieces or parts of songs, but that was it. I had tried YouTube, books, and previous teachers, but I hadn’t really progressed. Every Christmas at family gatherings, they would expect me to bring a guitar, but I had nothing I could play. MY CHURCH Our church is a modern congregation that plays songs from Hillsong and Planetshakers, among many others. We have some amazing musicians in our church, but our acoustic guitarist had to step down due to illness. They asked me if I could play in the team, and I initially had to say no, or at least not yet. The idea of playing in front of a hundred people, when I had previously not been able to play in front of my family, seemed like an impossible stretch. I didn’t know how to play a single worship song at that point or even how to approach it. The reality of my dream felt like an impossible mountain to climb. SESSIONS WITH LANCE One of the things I really enjoyed about Lance's teaching approach is that he keeps it simple. We began to deconstruct songs, and rather than trying to learn complex strumming patterns and chords, he showed me how to play within my ability. He taught me techniques for timing, techniques for chord transitions, and how to play songs at the level I was currently at. We worked through our first worship song, and I can’t put into words the sense of achievement I felt at being able to play a worship song from end to end. I can finally play a song and have an approach that works. JOINING THE TEAM Our church asked if I could join the worship team and work on getting up to speed. I’ve spent weeks mastering my first song, and now I need to try to learn five songs a week, even at a basic level. Some of these songs are really fast, too. During those days, I’d show up to lessons with an impossible song to learn, and Lance would again break it down and simplify it. He taught techniques across the spectrum, from finger picking to improvisation. The program is incredibly useful for adults as it’s easy to remember. I still use “The Fret Is Lava” improvisation technique today. It is genius! Lance went above and beyond in helping me in so many ways, and I can’t thank him enough. WHERE I AM TODAY Through the teaching and application of the techniques I’ve learned, I managed to learn over 80 worship songs in a year. I have been playing in the team on Sundays at our church and helping to facilitate worship for eight months. I am living what once felt like an impossible dream. I bring the techniques I learned onto the platform every Sunday and feel blessed each time I pick up the guitar. It is such a privilege to be involved in worship in God’s church. WHY I RECOMMEND LEARNING WITH LANCE Lance is a supreme musician and can teach at any level. He meets you where you are and takes you to where you want to be. There is great structure behind the teaching, and I always felt like I was improving. He is kind, patient, and truly cares about your journey. When the next guitarist in our church wants to join the team, I will absolutely recommend they sign up for lessons. Tony W.

"Lance is by far one of my favorite guitar teachers. Lance is awesome at making it fun and practical at the same time. He didn’t just show me how to play “Little Wing” by Jimi Hendrix but he broke it down for me to each chord & scale tone and why Jimi was so famous for the way he played. He helped me prepare for my audition when applying for the jazz program at Capilano University in North Vancouver. And overall I felt like I advanced as an electric lead guitar player the most when taking lessons from Lance."

"I took several years of guitar lessons from Lance when I was younger. Now, 14 years later, I can say without a doubt that his lessons were foundational for me and incredibly helpful. Lance is a friendly, easy-going guy who works at your pace to ensure you understand what he is teaching you. Whether you've never played guitar before or whether you’ve been playing for awhile - Lance can definitely help you on your journey to become a better player!"
